Dan Wallace had never taken on a running challenge before but decided that 2016 was the year he would take on the Great North Run for YMCA North Tyneside.
He says of his training,
“The low point of my training was the very beginning as I had never run more than 5 miles before. However, I gradually increased the distance and took part in the Great North 10k which was a good way of gauging how far I still had to go.â€
When I asked him why he chose to run and raise money on behalf of YMCA North Tyneside he said,
“I recognise that I have a very privileged life and I can’t imagine how it would feel to not have a roof over my head at this age. No-one deserves to be living on the streets and especially those who are younger and arguably more vulnerable. It is a satisfying thought that our sponsorship could go some way to help preventing homelessness in my local area.â€
Dan and his team really put the effort in to not only be able to complete the gruelling 13.1mile challenge but to run it in fantastic times too!
“The high point of my training was the first time I managed to run 10 miles as this was the moment I realised I was going to be able to do the GNR. I ran over 50 miles in August and was more than prepared for the day by the time it came round. I was very happy with my time as were others in my team.â€
So, would Dan be running and raising money for us again?
“Definitely! I had a fantastic day. Loved the whole experience and will definitely be doing it again.â€
Dan and his team mates have raised an incredible £813 for us, but they are still taking donations on their Just Giving page. If you would like to donate then please follow the link below to help young vulnerable and homeless people in North Tyneside.
Huge congratulations and many thanks to Dan and his team mates!
