On Thursday 17th August 2017 we had our second Allotment Volunteer Day. The sun was shining and we had an amazing amount of help from YMCA staff and some of our residents. We were also lucky enough to be joined by a group of international volunteers from Italy France and Spain who came along with their group leader Beka from an organisation called Opportunity. The generous people from Accenture provided us with some fantastic volunteers too. Everyone worked hard all day and the brilliant results are clear to see.
There was a phenomenal amount achieved during the day, everyone put an extraordinary amount of work into their various tasks. Hedges were cut back, the entrance was cleared, an additional two raised beds were built, a new pathway was laid to allow better access for wheelchair users and a phenomenal amount of weeding was done.
We would like to extend huge thanks to the Cleveland Road Coop for their generous donation of bottled water which kept everyone well hydrated in the hot sun. Monks Garage for their donation of tyres; this is the third donation they have very kindly made to the allotment! Finally thanks to North Tyneside Council for their donation of wood chippings.
These allotment days are vital to the upkeep and development of our community green space and without all of the enthusiastic volunteers we wouldn’t have made such amazing progress. Thanks to Opportunity, Accenture, staff, residents and those that attended after responding to the social media event page.
Our next Allotment Volunteer Day is on Thursday September 28th from 9.30am until 2pm, North Shields NE29 0NN.
We would love to see as many people as possible helping out and getting involved. For enquires about joining us on the day please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or follow the link to our Facebook event page to let us know if you’re intending to come along.
