Café Assistant – Teesdale
This role contributes to the Community Cafe which brings people together by providing a welcoming environment and a safe space for people to be. Whether they come in for a cup of tea, a coffee, lunch or to use the computers, all our services are there for the community.

LOCATION: YMCA Community Cafe, Cockfield, Teesdale

JOB TYPE: Zero Hours, Bank Staff

WORKING HOURS: As and when required. Support and cover is mainly required on Sundays, Bank Holiday & School Holiday cover

SALARY:  up to £9.00 per hour

 

Who are we?

YMCA Teesdale is based in Barnard Castle and surrounded by close-knit communities. We are part of the worldwide YMCA movement, which started in London in 1844 has grown to become the world’s largest and oldest youth movement.
The team at YMCA Teesdale focuses on providing projects, activities and after school services that bring people of all ages together to help reduce isolation in a rural area. This includes the YMCA Community Cafe in the village of Cockfield.

This role contributes to the Community Cafe which brings people together by providing a welcoming environment and a safe space for people to be. Whether they come in for a cup of tea, a coffee, lunch or to use the computers, all our services are there for the community.

What are we looking for?

Job Purpose:
To support the day to day running of our community café, based at Lipscomb Hall, Cockfield, Teesdale.

The café is currently open 9.30am – 2.30pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; Lunch Club (11.00am – 1.00pm) on Wednesday; 09.30am – 4.30pm on a Friday and 11.00am – 1.00pm on Sunday for hot lunches.

Paid staff will work alongside, and in support of, learners on gaining catering and hospitality qualifications, volunteers, long term work experience and apprentices.
This role supports the daily operations of the cafe including dealing with customer queries, requests and problems, taking payment and operating a till, helping with general cleaning and tidying around the kitchen and counters, tables, floors and toilets, and some food preparation.

● To help create a welcoming café environment that people actively seek out, because of the quality of both the food and customer service they receive. As well as a safe, clean and attractive environment to visit.
● To demonstrate the values of YMCA at all times, and to cross-promote our other
services and the work we do to transform the lives of young people.
