Early Years, Youth and Community Worker

We have an exciting opportunity for two part time Youth & Community Workers to join YMCA North Tyneside in North Shields. We have two roles available 10 hours or 15 hours per week. 

The role would be supporting the development and delivery of our early years, youth and community work ensuring all work delivered aims to empower children, young people, and support all individuals in our communities. Working as a team to ensure that we deliver a high quality early years, youth and community work provision, working in partnership with key stakeholders and local agencies reflecting the needs of local people including children and young people. Undertaking operational delivery, with strategic and operational guidance from the Youth and Community Lead.

Open to candidates without Early Years experience, that have Youth Work experience. We have both 10 and 15 hour positions available.

What do we do?

The role of our Youth & Community programme work is to reach out to young people in North Tyneside and the surrounding area and provide them with a wide range of healthy and positive youth activities and support. In doing this, we seek to ensure young people have the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate their way through adolescence are support them to reach their full potential.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for these role will have experience of working with young people, ideally in the following areas: centre based/outreach youth work, community development or the health sector. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to follow direction from senior staff and possess the skills to engage and build relationships with young people who at times can be closed off or resistant to new people. An understanding and experience of facing challenging behaviours and ability to de-escalate situations which may arise. Must have a strong character with an ability to hold firm professional boundaries. A strong understanding of safeguarding and how it applies in this role, including the process of escalating concerns to the correct people within YMCA North Tyneside.

It would be great if you had a relevant youth work qualification, however this is not essential.

The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check, Reference Checks and a 6 month probationary period.

You will receive induction training, regular supervision, on-going personal development whilst working in a nurturing environment where staff are encouraged to learn and grow as individuals.
