Last year, our Airplay Youth Club took on the challenge of competing against RAF Leeming in a series of fun-filled games and activities. The event was such a hit that the children immediately requested it become an annual tradition!
This May, our young participants eagerly contributed to planning the activities and deciding on the necessary resources, ensuring a day packed with excitement and joy. We were fortunate to have extra helping hands from YMCA North Tyneside staff and many RAF Leeming staff members, making the day run as smoothly as possible. A professional photographer even captured some incredible moments throughout the event!
The children had a blast engaging in various activities, including football, cake and t-shirt designing, doughnut eating contests, maths and spelling challenges, a best-dressed catwalk, and an epic game of Jenga. The increase in engagement from the young people was remarkable, with many of them expressing higher levels of confidence and self-esteem.
After a day of close competitions, our young champions were thrilled to receive a special trophy from a representative of the Station Commander. The partnership with the community support team and the wider YMCA team played a crucial role in the event’s success, allowing our Airplay Leeming team to relax and enjoy the festivities alongside the participants.
The sense of community spirit was palpable, and the young people left with smiles on their faces. We can’t wait to see what next year’s rivalry holds as our young competitors aim for back-to-back victories!
