Youth Matters Awards 2025

Youth Matters Awards 2025

On November 14th, our team travelled to London alongside four incredible finalists representing Young Campaigner of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Young Worker of the Year, and the Diversity Award. We are thrilled to announce that we returned with two major wins!

Lexi, a 12-year-old advocate with ADHD and Autism, was recognised for her leadership within the Youth Collective and won Young Campaigner of the Year. By championing LGBTQIA+ visibility through creative school outreach and community projects, Lexi has become a vital voice for inclusion in North Tyneside.

The judges praised her impact, stating:

Lexi’s dedicated campaigning fosters a sense of belonging and proves that young people can drive meaningful change toward a more accepting community.

Our Happy Women Project took home the Diversity Award for its work supporting BAME migrant and asylum-seeking women. The project provides a “safe and brave space” for participants to learn English, explore creativity, and build the confidence necessary to navigate life in the UK independently.

Chelsea (Youth & Community Team & Lexi’s Mum):

It was an incredibly empowering experience. Seeing Lexi win and hearing from the other finalists reminded me of the profound impact of our work. The event felt like a family, and it was inspiring to see so much good being done across the board.

Nahreen (Project Lead, Happy Women Project):

We are so proud to provide a space where women feel valued and supported. Seeing our participants progress to college or local volunteering is what this project is all about. Our hope is to continue this work indefinitely, ensuring every woman we serve has the opportunity to thrive.

We are immensely proud of all our finalists and the dedication they show to the communities we serve at YMCA North Tyneside.
