Cancer Rehab Case Study: Jamie

Cancer Rehab Case Study: Jamie

At 42, Jamie faced a life-altering diagnosis of breast cancer that had spread to her bones and liver. To fight the disease, she underwent an intensive and exhausting treatment plan, including a lumpectomy, a lymphadenectomy, and chemotherapy.

While the treatments were necessary for her survival, they took a heavy toll on her body. The chemotherapy triggered the onset of osteoporosis, compromising her bone density. Furthermore, the invasive surgical procedures left Jamie with a profound loss of confidence in her upper body strength, making the active lifestyle she once loved feel frustratingly out of reach.

Knowing that targeted physical activity is clinically proven to reduce treatment side effects and accelerate recovery, Jamie joined our Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation Programme.

She was paired with Steve, one of our Specialist Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors, for a personal consultation. Because every cancer journey is unique, Steve designed a highly tailored programme specifically engineered to meet Jamie’s needs: safely combating her chemo-induced osteoporosis by strengthening her bones and joints, and gradually rebuilding her upper body strength in a safe, motivating environment.

Through consistent, guided sessions, Jamie experienced a remarkable transformation. She saw considerable increases in her overall strength, endurance, and mobility. More importantly, she regained her physical confidence.

Today, Jamie’s upper body strength and endurance have improved so dramatically that she feels fully confident enough to get back on the water and restart her passion: windsurfing.

Steve is a very patient but firm coach; he stopped me from overdoing it, but also encouraged me to progress.
