Bringing Colour and Calm to RAF Leeming Youth Club

Every vibrant community space has its own unique soundtrack. But when laughter, games, and non-stop energy bounce off hard walls, the noise level can quickly turn a fun hangout into an overwhelming acoustic free-for-all. That was precisely the challenge inside the main Youth Club room at RAF Leeming—until the team at Morgan Sindall stepped in to turn down the echo and turn up the creative charm.

As part of their ongoing project at RAF Leeming, Morgan Sindall has kept community values firmly at the heart of their work. Senior Project Manager Roy Perry and his crew worked hand-in-hand with the youth club, running interactive workshops across various age groups. The goal was to build a genuine connection with the young people using the space, culminating in a practical project that would make a lasting difference to their daily lives.

The grand finale arrived with the installation of 20 custom acoustic panels to tame the room’s intense echoing. Rather than sticking to a standard, predictable corporate layout, the kids were given total creative freedom. They picked out a palette of funky, bright colors, while club staff helped design a playful, randomised setting. The result is a vibrant, relaxed sanctuary that feels custom-built for fun. As Roy Perry noted, the informal, random placement brings a fresh energy to the space that easily beats a rigid, uniform grid.
