Building Big Ideas: A Day of Discovery at RAF Leeming Ben Club

The atmosphere at RAF Leeming’s Ben Club was buzzing with extra excitement recently as our young members traded their usual activities for a front-row seat to the world of engineering. We were thrilled to welcome Roy Perry, Senior Project Manager at Morgan Sindall Construction, for a special workshop designed to spark curiosity and showcase the behind-the-scenes magic of building.

The session kicked off with an essential lesson in site safety. Roy introduced the children to the vital role of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It wasn’t long before the room was filled with mini-project managers, as the children eagerly donned high-vis jackets and hard hats. Seeing the gear in person turned a serious safety lesson into a highlight of the day, with plenty of smiles (and slightly oversized hats!) all around.

The curiosity didn’t stop at the outfits. Roy led an engaging discussion about the massive vehicles and specialized tools used on modern construction sites. The children were full of questions, showing a natural enthusiasm for how things work and how big structures come to life.

The learning then transitioned into hands-on play, thanks to a generous donation of construction toys from Morgan Sindall. This allowed the children to put their new knowledge into practice immediately, breaking ground on their own imaginative projects and learning through the best method possible: having fun.

Opportunities like this provide a fantastic foundation for learning, teamwork, and career inspiration. We want to extend a massive thank you to Roy Perry and the team at Morgan Sindall Construction for their time, their donation, and their dedication to inspiring the military children at RAF Leeming.
