Community initiatives often rely on the sustained effort of individuals, not just initial bursts of enthusiasm. At YMCA North Tyneside, the Community Meal programme, launched in January 2023, is a testament to this fact. Offering free hot food, it’s become a vital resource to the most vulnerable members of our community. But its success isn’t solely down to the programme’s concept; it’s rooted in the consistent support of salt-of-the-earth volunteers like Jacqui and Albie from Children of the Revolution, an independent shop located on Tynemouth Front Street.
Jacqui and Albie’s involvement began with sponsoring and assisting at the very first community meal. Little did they know, this initial act would ignite a passionate commitment that would see them returning, time and time again. Remarkably, they have volunteered at nearly every single community meal since they began. This steadfast dedication has translated into serving over 2,550 meals – a testament to their tireless efforts and genuine care for their community.
Their consistent presence has been invaluable to us; beyond the practical support of serving meals, Jacqui and Albie create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at each meal, making it a space where everyone feels seen and valued. Beyond our Community Meals, for 2 years in a row Jacqui has kindly ran a Santa’s Nice List donation scheme for customers at her Children of the Revolution store, both times raising over £500 for our Hope for Christmas Appeal.
Thank you so much to Jacqui and Albie for their extraordinary contributions. Their story serves as an inspiration to us all, showcasing how small acts of kindness can create a significant positive change.
