Hayden’s journey is a testament to the power of believing and the transformative impact of YMCA North Tyneside.

His path to independence was not straightforward. After a swift shift in his home life, he found himself in need of a new living situation. It was his college tutor that pointed him towards YMCA North Tyneside, recognising the potential for support and stability it could offer. The referral marked the beginning of a life-changing experience for Hayden.

In March 2018 Hayden made the move to YMCA, a crucial step to providing him with a greater sense of privacy and responsibility. Sir James Knott House supported accommodation gave him a roof over his head, and a foundation for his future.

Hayden speaks highly of the YMCA staff, whose dedication to the residents is nothing short of remarkable. He recalls their unwavering support, noting that they consistently went above and beyond in their efforts to help, including lugging his sofa through some very tight spaces to get it where he wanted it! This nurturing environment was pivotal, allowing Hayden to flourish.

While residing at the YMCA, Hayden started on a Working Roots course with North Tyneside Council, focusing on land maintenance. This experience was his stepping stone towards independence and helped Hayden gain confidence, equipping him with the skills and mindset needed to take control of his life.

March 2021 marked a significant milestone for Hayden as he transitioned into his own flat through Carbon Homes; the culmination of years of hard work and personal development. Today, Hayden still calls this flat his home!

Hayden secured his security license, opening the door to new career opportunities. Now, he works locally at the Beacon Centre as security staff, contributing to the safety and well-being of his community. His new role is a full-circle moment; he stands as a pillar of security for others, much like YMCA did for him.

Reflecting on his experiences, Hayden acknowledges the crucial role the YMCA played in his life. He candidly admits that he’s unsure where he would be without the support he received.

YMCA North Tyneside continues to be a place where stories like Hayden’s are possible – a place where change is embraced, support is given freely, and futures are forged with care and dedication. Hayden’s story is just one of many, but it stands as a shining example of the difference that compassionate support can make in a person’s life.
