We’re incredibly proud of one of our residents, Elara, who has recently embarked on an inspiring artistic journey. It all began with a simple visit to The Globe Art Gallery, a local gem brimming with creativity and community spirit. Elara, who is currently studying Art at college, and I decided to explore the latest installations, with the potential of Elara joining their evening art classes in mind.

From the moment Elara stepped inside, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The owner’s passion for art and fostering a supportive environment was palpable, immediately putting Elara at ease. This newfound confidence led Elara to inquire about volunteering opportunities, and to their delight, The Globe Art Gallery was keen to have her on board!

What started as an evening art session quickly blossomed into a much larger commitment. Elara became an integral part of a collaborative art installation project, displayed on the iconic Tynemouth Metro bridge. This was no ordinary exhibition; it was Yvette Ja’s captivating installation, celebrating the timeless allure of the moon and sea. Drawing inspiration from both Korean and British folklore, the exhibition coincided with Korea’s Chuseok festival. It explored the moon’s significant role in navigation, harvest cycles, and cultural rituals spanning centuries in both Eastern and Western traditions.

Elara was involved from the project’s inception to its grand unveiling, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and contributing to a truly remarkable piece of public art. This experience solidified Elara’s passion and commitment to the art world.

Now, Elara volunteers at The Globe Art Gallery on a weekly basis, actively participating in open events and becoming a valued member of the gallery’s community. Even more exciting, Elara and the gallery owner have been in discussions about a potential apprenticeship, a testament to Elara’s dedication and talent.

This is a wonderful example of how exploring local opportunities can lead to incredible personal and professional growth. We are thrilled to see Elara flourishing and pursuing their artistic dreams. The Globe Art Gallery has provided a nurturing space for Elara to learn, create, and connect with fellow artists, and we look forward to seeing what Elara accomplishes next!
