This year, we partnered with Northumberland County Council to find a suitable home for three long-term residents with learning difficulties. These individuals, who have shared their lives for over 30 years, faced a growing challenge – their current residence, with its steep stairs, was no longer safe as they aged.

Understanding their need for a secure and accessible environment, we collaborated with The Middleton Foundation, who generously purchased a single-story bungalow in Berwick. The transition was filled with heartwarming details. Initially believing it was a holiday retreat, the residents experienced a delightful surprise upon discovering their new forever home!

The positive impact has been immediate. Staff report significant improvements in sleep quality, with residents now enjoying restful nights and even sleeping in later. The bungalow’s comfortable layout and inviting garden have fostered a sense of peace and wellbeing. The residents find immense joy in watching birds from their dining table, a simple pleasure now readily available.

This project’s success extends beyond the residents themselves. The staff finds the new environment much more conducive to providing quality care. Witnessing the residents’ happiness brings immense satisfaction, further strengthening the bond between residents and staff.
