Hi I’m Chloe and I’m a Support Coordinator with YMCA North Tyneside. I’m currently based at our housing office in Stockton where myself and my manager Sarah work as a 2 person team. We support a total of 19 residents with a variety of different support needs, 6 of these residents are based at Horden and 13 are based at Stockton.
A day in the life of a Support Coordinator is often dynamic and fulfilling as it involves providing essential support to individuals with different vulnerabilities, ranging from mental health needs to drug and alcohol addictions or perhaps just needing tenancy-related support. It’s a highly rewarding role that varies day to day.
A day typically starts by turning on the office phone and checking emails. I then collaborate with Sarah to plan the day ahead. One of the key aspects of my role is conducting link work sessions with residents, either in their flats or at the support room in the office. These sessions are tailored to the residents’ support plans, focusing on their goals and aspirations.
From arranging residents medical appointments to exploring benefit entitlements or assisting with budget management, my days are diverse and structured around the needs of each individual. These interactions provide practical support and empower residents to take control of their lives and work towards their goals.

Support Coordinator
In addition to one-on-one sessions, I also engage with various agencies like the police, safeguarding teams, and social services to ensure a holistic approach to support. Collaborating with multiple agencies allows us to deliver the best comprehensive support to help our residents thrive .
While I find the role immensely rewarding, it also comes with challenges. Dealing with complex cases and major incidents, such as the recent loss of a resident, can be emotionally taxing. Building relationships with residents and witnessing their progress makes such moments particularly difficult. However, I’d like to think my dedication and compassion shines through during these challenging times.
Despite the highs and lows, I love my job; it’s such a rewarding experience. Seeing the positive impact of my efforts on residents’ lives and helping them achieve their goals brings me immense satisfaction. Working as a Support Coordinator has also provided me with ample opportunities for personal growth. I’m excellent at problem solving now and I have a greater understanding and appreciation of diversity and the challenges that some individuals face.
