In November 2023, YMCA took on the delivery of SCYPANs Youth Group. SCYPAN stands for Shildon Children and Young People’s Action Network and is a network of all organisations involved with children and young people in Shildon coming together to work to improve children and young people’s experiences of growing up in Shildon. This is where the youth group came from. They have been on a journey of piloting the project and as YMCA takes on the project, they have been in existence for 1 year to date.

Since taking on the project, we have been on a journey to sustain and develop the project. We see the ups and downs of the young people and enjoy providing meaningful opportunities for them to engage in, providing a safe space where they can come and enjoy time together. This is building on and continuing the work that has been delivered prior to YMCA stepping in.

The journey sees us continuing along the next year and hopefully sustaining further funding for the benefit of the young people. To date we have seen some great pieces of work, including but not exclusively, trips to AYCC to deliver work in partnership and provide some great opportunities for the young people to get out of their comfort zone, one of which was at AYCC’s Christmas Grotto!

We are still recruiting for this area, and if you think you can bring a skill set to the team to support the development of the young people in Shildon, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
