Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a positive impact. At YMCA North Tyneside, we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals with diverse interests and skills. In 2024, we are excited to announce new and ongoing volunteer opportunities for individuals to get involved and make a difference in their local community. Take a look and see what we have to offer:
1. Allotment Volunteers
If you enjoy gardening and being outdoors, our allotment volunteer roles could be perfect for you! Our allotment just off Grosvenor Place, North Shields, provides a space to grow fruits, vegetables, trees and flowers, ensuring the space remains welcoming for members of our community, our YMCA Day Nursery children, volunteers and staff to use the space all year round. Volunteers will be asked to regularly attend the allotment to ensure it’s maintained and should any problems arise, report back to the Volunteer Coordinator.
2. Picnic in the Park Volunteers
Every Summer, we host our popular Picnic in the Park community event in Northumberland Square, and we need volunteers to help make it a success! On Saturday 1st June 2024, volunteers will assist with set-up, stalls, stewarding, distributing leaflets, bucket collecting, and facilitating games and activities for attendees. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun and hopefully enjoy the sunshine all while giving back to your community.
3. Patterdale Estate Volunteers
Our Patterdale Estate is a beautiful 200-acre natural space in Glenridding, Penrith that requires regular maintenance to keep the farmland, woodland and shoreline looking its best. Volunteers will assist with tasks such as trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and tree planting to name a few. This is a great opportunity to get outside, enjoy nature, and make a tangible difference in your community. Added bonus – we may be able to provide free accommodation for Estate volunteers from November to February.
4. Teesdale Community Volunteers
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities in Teesdale, Bishop Auckland for individuals to get involved with. Teesdale is a rural community with isolation being an issue for many of the older members of the community; our team in Teesdale are continuously aiming to improve this through their community work in Cockfield, Evenwood and Shildon. Teesdale volunteers can assist as cafe servers, kitchen volunteers, yard gardeners or befrienders at our Cockfield Community Cafe, or across all 3 areas we also have roles such as events, social club and youth group volunteers. These volunteer roles will be great for bubbly people local to Teesdale.
5. Christmas Events Volunteers
Our annual Christmas events vary from year to year, however, we have some exciting plans in the pipeline for this year that may involve Santa’s Grotto! Volunteers will have the chance to assist with event set-up and clean-up, and everything else in between. This is a great opportunity for people who are good with children/ families and love Christmas!
Volunteering with YMCA is a rewarding experience you’re not likely to forget. And no matter your skills or interest, we will have something for you…including a discount in our onsite cafe if you come on board. Join us in 2024 and become part of our YMCA family!
