Bradley’s Story

Bradley arrived at YMCA North Tyneside in 2020, when he was just 16. He was homeless and needed support, but he clearly had a lot of unfulfilled potential. Two years on, Bradley has a job, is living independently and has become a YMCA Youth Ambassador. He is excited to be heading to YMCA’s World Council event in Denmark to learn more about the worldwide impact of YMCA.

Amber was forced to leave home to escape an abusive relationship. Her ex-partner used to control her finances and demand that she gave him more and more money. He also used to make her live by a rota which he created. When he became increasingly aggressive and controlling Amber had to leave.

YMCA Great North Run (2021)

What a funny old year!

In 2020, we were proud to stand behind 16 runners signing up to participate in the much anticipated Great North Run event, celebrating 40 years of the marathon. However, the unexpected downfall of the pandemic postponed the physical run to 2021, resulting in many participants stepping down from their spot due to a conflict in plans.

Kickstarting employment for 16 to 24 year olds

YMCA North Tyneside helps create a supportive, inclusive and engaging community where young people can truly belong, contribute and thrive. And as part of our mission, we have engaged in the government scheme ‘Kickstart’ which provides funding to create jobs for 16 to 24 year olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment.

Case Study: Inspiring Young Female

Grace began attending YMCA’s Youth Project back in 2015 when she was just 9 years old. She had a very challenging upbringing and YMCA North Tyneside soon became aware of the struggles that Grace had encountered throughout her childhood, such as family bereavements, regular dealings with social services and numerous problems with living circumstances.

Keeping YMCA Staff Connected through Cuisine

Last Friday, a number of YMCA staff grabbed their aprons and took to their kitchens for a group cooking session, courtesy of Ravenous Fox.
Like in many organisations, staff had seen very little of each other throughout the pandemic, particularly in group scenarios, so a good catch up was well overdue.
